Dental X-ray exams are safe; however, like all x-rays they do require very low levels of radiation. Dental X-ray tools and techniques are designed to limit the body’s exposure to radiation and every precaution is taken to ensure that radiation exposure is As Low As Reasonably Achievable (the ALARA principle). For example, a leaded apron minimizes exposure to the abdomen and used when it will not interfere with acquisition of the dental radiograph. Also, a leaded thyroid collar can protect the thyroid from radiation, and should also be used whenever possible. The use of a leaded thyroid collar is recommended for women of childbearing age, pregnant women and children.
In general, checkups are recommended at a minimum of every six months in order to aid in the prevention of cavities and other dental problems. It is always better to diagnose a potential problem early on. Since every child has individual oral healthcare needs, the frequency of dental visits will vary as the situation necessitates.
Regular visits keep children familiar with the dentist and dental professionals. These visits build confidence in children and are much more pleasant when the child is not forced to associate the dentist with emergency treatment due to tooth pain and dental neglect. Decay or breakdown of a tooth that is detected in the early stages is easier and less costly to treat. Read our blog article on Dental Hygiene for Children!
Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures
Patients who experience the most benefit from having their teeth whitened:
- Are in good dental health
- Maintain good dental health (i.e. brush three times a day, floss, receive regular dental checkups every six months, etc.)
- May suffer from slightly discolored, or yellow, teeth
- Wish to improve the look of their smile for aesthetic purposes
- Are in good physical health
Do-it-yourself teeth whiteners and pastes are not always the best way to whiten your teeth. However, the methods used by Amelia Dental Implants work very well and can last many months or even years with regular maintenance!
Teeth whitening is a safe, effective procedure, and does not typically include any negative side effects. Minor side effects may consist of:
- Increased tooth sensitivity to hot or cold
- White spots on the surface of the teeth (a potential side effect of at-home whitening systems)
- Nighttime whitening trays may cause additional gum sensitivity or irritation.
A “full” smile makeover sounds involved, but it really isn’t. For you, it may be as simple as filling teeth or getting dental crowns. In other cases, we may need to add treatments like implants, dentures, and esthetic procedures.
No one is born with a perfect smile, which is why when you see someone that has straight, attractive, white teeth, it’s usually because they’ve had a smile makeover. A smile makeover goes beyond responding to dental problems as they arise. A smile makeover is a comprehensive plan that’s uniquely suited to your own facial features and aesthetic preferences.
What Is The First Step?
Communication is vitally important in the smile makeover process, which is why at the first consultation we will listen intently to what you want to accomplish. We want to know what you would like and what you want for your smile. Once you’ve shared with us your goals, we will prepare a plan for treatment. Cosmetic dentistry offers an amazing array of lifelike tooth restorations and treatments.

Many minor flaws like chipped teeth or old, discolored fillings can be corrected by using natural-looking dental composite to perform cosmetic dental bonding. This is a conservative and affordable process that’s simple enough to allow us to perform several repairs in just one visit.
Porcelain veneers are another popular option for concealing flaws or completely altering the shape of a tooth to improve its appearance. We can place one or two veneers, or we can design a full set for a complete smile makeover.
Dental bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-colored resin (a type of durable plastic) is applied to the tooth and hardened with a special light, which ultimately “bonds” the material to the tooth to restore or improve person’s smile. Bonding is done to repair a decayed, chipped, fractured, discolored tooth.
How Does Cosmetic Dental Bonding Work?
Dental bonding is a rather simple procedure. First, your doctor will clean the area where they will apply the bonding resin. Then, they will choose a resin that matches your tooth color. Afterwards, they will attach and mold the resin to the shape of the tooth. The resin is applied layer by layer until the area has the desired look. Your doctor will then harden the resin using an ultraviolet light. Once the resin has hardened, the last step is to make sure that the tooth looks correct. The final step is to polish the tooth.
Anyone interested in dental bonding should be aware that resin can stain and is most likely to do so within the first few hours after treatment. This is why it’s important that you avoid drinking liquids like coffee, tea, or red wine. You should also not smoke during this time.
Cosmetic Dental Bonding Saves Money
We know that keeping your smile looking great is important to you. When discoloration, minor chips, or spacing occur, you should not have to deal with a difficult and expensive dental procedure. We provide cosmetic bonding to help solve these small issues that will crop up from time to time without the cost of major procedures.
Veneers are a dependable, affordable solution to imperfect smiles. They are thin, tooth-colored porcelain shells that cover your natural teeth. Long lasting and natural looking, they can protect your teeth from further damage and give you the beautiful smile you desire.
Are Veneers Right For You?
Veneers can help with any of the following issues:
- Worn down, chipped, or broken teeth
- Stained or discolored teeth
- Uneven or irregularly shaped teeth
- Gaps between teeth
Whether we are helping fill in a gap, lengthening a worn-down tooth, or covering cracks or chips, veneers can give you a fuller, more symmetrical smile — one that you can show the world with confidence.
How We Can Help With Veneers:
You greet the world with your smile, and if you have discolored, uneven, or cracked teeth, it may be difficult to do so confidently. The good news is that We have a solution for you. Using veneers, we can help you change the color, shape, length, alignment, and spacing of your teeth.
Veneers may be the quickest, easiest way to enhance your smile. Often, in just two to three visits to our practice, you can have a brand new, gorgeous smile.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are a type of tooth replacement that is commonly used to replace one or more teeth.
The part that we refer to as an implant is a small titanium post placed into the bone of the jaw that acts as a replacement root for a missing tooth. Over time, the post fuses with surrounding bone through the process of osseointegration. We then restore the part of the tooth you can see with a crown, bridge, or denture, depending on your specific needs. Learn more in our blog article!
Generally, dental implants are not covered by dental insurance. However, more companies are covering dental implants today than they did ten years ago. In many cases, your insurance can help pay for the teeth that are placed on the dental implants, if not the implants themselves. You can call your dental insurance provider and ask if dental implants are a covered procedure.
Yes. In many cases, implants are actually considered stronger than natural teeth and provide full functionality. After treatment, patients will be able to enjoy all of their favorite foods while benefiting from healthy, aesthetically-pleasing prosthetic replacement teeth.
If we determine that Implants are right for you, Our implantology team will create a custom treatment plan. During surgery, the robot assist system will provide important information that our implantologist can feel, hear, and see.
Robotic guidance technology gives our implantologist important information on your teeth and jaws. This allows them to plan and carry out your implant procedure with unmatched precision, personalized specifically for you.
Robotic assistance is becoming a standard of care in medicine, used to help over one million patients every year. We use the only FDA-cleared system for robotic guidance for dental surgery in the United States.
The Robot does not replace your dental surgeon. It gives your dental surgeon helpful assistance. The dental surgeon holds onto and directs the Yomi instruments. Yomi combines your dental surgeon’s skill with the benefit and precision of robotic surgery.
